You get a bubbling cauldron of even-order harmonics that will enhance any guitar rig! So, you’re thinking, is it a fuzz? Yes! Is it an overdrive? Yes! Is it a sparkly boost? Yes, again! Karma Suture’s four control layout allows you to dial in a huge range of harmonically rich tones that sound great into clean amps and into overdriven amps. Or into a foundation overdrive, such as the Dirty Little Secret. It can work equally well with vintage single coils and hot humbuckers. Because Karma Suture generates predominantly even-order harmonic distortion, you will notice amazing clarity even with extreme settings. You can even play complex chord voicings and yet every note rings through clear! Try that with your average fuzz or distortion pedal! And even at maximum settings, the Karma Suture retains an open and responsive character unlike a lot of fuzzes and distortion pedals. Even though it has an open character, you can get amazing sustain with the Karma Suture on, especially if you’re hitting a cranked up amp with it. Harmonics come in waves, undulating in and out as you hold that epic power chord. Based on the rare Harmonic Percolator circuit, it is not just a clone. We’ve expanded the potential by adding the exclusive Density and Diodes controls coupled with months of fine-tuning to get everything just right. You’ll find great sounds throughout the rotation of all the controls. No matter how you have the pedal set, the tone and response is always alive, sensitive to your every playing nuance.

The Colour Box is ten years old, and to celebrate, we're offering a special colorway in a pro-audio aesthetic! As the story goes, Jim Marshall entered a distribution deal for his amp line in 1965, but the terms of the deal were vague enough such that Marshall could build amps on the side, just not under his own name. Thus, Park was born, and the amps produced under that name were slight variations on Marshall circuits until the company dissolved in 1982.

Among the line of amps, a few pedals were also produced. However, the good folks at Earthquaker Devices, in collaboration with the newly-resurrected Park Amplification, have faithfully recreated the Park Fuzz Sound so that a new generation may enjoy it.

While the original deployed the aforementioned mystery cans, the new Park Fuzz Sound uses a different set of NOS germanium transistors, hand-selected for a tonal match. Indeed, when A/B’d with the original unit, the sounds were strikingly similar. In fact, the staff at PGS was split right down the middle as to which was which. What’s more, when doing the test, we had to set the new Park Fuzz Sound’s Fuzz control at about half, whereas the original was dimed. The reissue has way more range in the Fuzz dial than the original.

Another bugaboo of original fuzz pedals is the powering situation; in the case of the original Park, it’s powered by a battery only but changing it out required using a lever to pry open the lid. While that’s a hassle, using batteries is kind of a hassle in and of itself. However, this and many older fuzz pedals are positive-ground; the common workaround is reversing the lugs on the power jack internally, but this configuration means that the pedal cannot be daisy-chained. The new Park Fuzz Sound doesn’t phone it in, offering a chip inside that corrects the voltage problem for complete rig integration.

The new Park Fuzz Sound is hand-made, one at a time in exotic Akron, Ohio. With 30+ versions made throughout its almost half a century lifetime, the Big Muff Distortion/Fuzz has personally pioneered the sounds of some of the biggest bands and musical movements in history. The Muffuletta is our tribute to the legend and story of one of the greatest pedals ever invented. Let’s take a look at what makes the Muffuletta the ultimate recreation of this circuit in a way that has never been done before.

The heart of the Muffuletta is the fact that it replicates five (yes five) classic Big Muff circuits from years gone by as well as a new and original JHS version for a total of six Muff models. All executed without any digital signal processing or digital emulation. When you choose a model, you are achieving analog tone that uses real components and values found in the original units. We have selected our favorite classic versions from the pages of history and made them available in one small format pedal that is easy to understand, operate and do what it should do… replicate rare, expensive, mythical and sought after versions of this circuit with ease.

Looking at the pedal, there are four controls: Volume, Tone, Sustain and Mode. The “Volume" control works just like any other volume control allowing you to adjust the overall output of the pedal to your taste. The “Tone” control lets you brighten or darken your overall tone. The “Sustain” control is best understood as a gain or distortion control as it gives more distortion to the circuit. The “Mode” control lets you choose from our six different versions of the Big Muff on the fly. Looking at the “Mode” control you will see six icons around the lower 50% of the knob. Let's take a look at each mode and why they made the cut to be in the ultimate Big Muff tribute.

JHS - "2015" The JHS Muff is a JHS original take on the classic circuit. This is one of the most famous uses of plugging a guitar straight into a mixing console and creating the now referred to as “Direct-In Distortion". That tone is one of the most recognizable and unique guitar tones of the last 60 years and was one of the inspirations for the JHS Colour Box that we released in May of 2014. We sought to recreate that same compressed bite and fuzz that you get when plugging directly into a British style preamp but in a compact pedal. What we came up with was something even more than we imagined, and the Colour Box has become a staple among many producers, guitar players, and multi-instrumentalists world wide. Many players over the last few years have expressed their interest in a unit that is like the Colourbox but more streamlined for the one basic application of a dirt box. No XLR function, no 3 band EQ… Just the dirt in an easy to use format for guitarists… So we decided to pull the Crayon out of the Colour Box.

The controls are Master, Pre, Tilt, and Hi Pass. “Master" is your classic volume control that controls the overall output. “Pre" works as a drive or fuzz control like turning up the pre-volume on a preamp to send it in to overdrive. As you reach 75% and above, the fuzz will begin to gate out as you pick the strings harder when playing, it is very responsive to your input signal and touch. The “Tilt" acts as an active tone control that is flat when the knob is at 50%. When turned to the left, the Tilt control boosts bass and simultaneously cuts treble. When turned to the right, it boosts treble and cuts bass. This allows for some very unique and usable adjustments to the overall feel of the Crayon. The “Hi-Pass” toggle switch lets you activate from two different frequencies located on the side of the pedal, 200Hz and 750Hz. These settings let only the high band frequencies above them pass, and this allows for some amazing tone shaping possibilities.

The Crayon excels at Direct-In fuzz tones, but it truly covers more ground than you would first imagine. He also is a founding member of Mudcrutch and has a side project called the Dirty Knobs. When the opportunity to create his only signature pedal came to us, we were honoured, to say the least. You will also see a toggle switch in the centre near the top. The best way to understand the Calhoun is to picture an imaginary line that separates the two sides; this line goes directly down the centre where the toggle switch is located. The left side is the drive portion of the pedal with Volume, Drive, Treble, Bass controls. The Volume control is a master level control allowing you to set the maximum or minimum volume of the pedal. The Drive control adjusts how much dirt/distortion you are allowing in the circuit. The Treble and Bass controls adjust the EQ of the pedal, allowing you to darken and brighten the frequencies as needed. The right side of the pedal is the fuzz portion, with Volume, Fuzz, Bias, and EQ controls. The Volume control acts as the same master volume control as the left side. The Fuzz control adjusts the intensity of the fuzz sound. The Bias control adjusts the voltage to the circuit allowing more powerful tones that bloom with more headroom or weaker and more saturated tones. The EQ control lets you set the range of tone from dark to bright as you wish. The toggle switch mentioned earlier allows you to choose the order of the two effects when stacked (both on at the same time). The effect that the toggle is pointed at is first in series; this lets you stack the effects in whichever way you desire to achieve different textures of stacked tones.

The Super Hornet has been a long time in the making…at least in Nick’s mind. The wide sweep tone control brings a new level of versatility to the Tarpit. Turning the tone control down cuts treble, and boosts bass frequencies; setting the tone control in the middle, or slightly above, allows for full guitar and bass frequencies to come out. If you want to get really crazy, push the tone control higher, and you’ll get into some AM radio type frequencies. The volume control utilizes a slightly later taper on the potentiometer. We studied and analyzed decades worth of gear and crafted our own sounds that give you not only the original tones, but an endless range of in-between sounds you can’t get elsewhere. Even if you have other Keeley effects or workstations, you don’t have these exact sounds. The Rotary is slightly different than the Monterey, it’s more chorus like. The Flanger is different than the hidden one on the Bubble Tron. The U-Vibe on this pedal is also deeper and throbs with more intensity. If you were lucky enough to get one of the Jimi Hazel Phase Delays or put the Bubble Tron into the hidden bank 2 mode; well then you have heard our 4 stage phaser. It’s dead on and a blast to play. Like the Monterey, this unit is completely hand built. Including the high-end DSP, everything is hand assembled and soldered by our technicians with decades of experience. Attention to detail and tone at every point.

Mother

What you get is a Mother Lode of effects and sounds. Necessity is the Mother of Invention. Someone needed to put all these epic sounds in one box. So we did. There’s no need to wish you were here, get out your Strat and we’ll see you on the Dark Side.

The L.A. The three-position switch on the Master Oscillator control panel labeled Root feeds your input to the Data Corrupter’s signal harvester in its original octave (Unison), one octave down (-1) or two octaves down (-2). Use the Master Oscillator’s Root switch to fine tune the Data Corrupter’s tracking response for maximum compatibility with your preferred instrument and frequency register. Once you’ve chosen your input octave, the Data Corrupter will perform its calculations and spit out a synthesized frequency, the octave and/or interval of which may be selected via the Master Oscillator’s eight-position rotary switch. The Voice Mixer’s Oscillator control adjusts the Master Oscillator blend.

The Frequency Modulator applies pitch-bend modulation to the Master Oscillator. In Vibrato mode the pitch modulates up and down for a retro sci-fi laser effect.

The Subharmonic assimilates the input signal into one of eight lower octave programs between one and three octaves below the original. For a more stable lower octave, set the Subharmonic’s Root switch to the Unison position, which divides the Square Wave input signal, and removes the Frequency Modulator from the Subharmonic signal path. To unleash the cracked machine lurking within the Data Corrupter mainframe, set the Subharmonic Root switch to Oscillator and try not to look away as the sonic malware you just installed mangles your input signal into the sum and difference of both the Master Oscillator and Subharmonic with the Frequency Modulator applied to the upper and lower octaves. If you think you’re brave enough, set the Subharmonic Root switch to Oscillator and try experimenting with different Master Oscillator and Subharmonic programs to wind up the doomsday clock and inch ever closer to the Singularity. Adjust the Voice Mixer’s Subharmonic control to set the lower octave volume.

Finally, (or is it?) the Square control located top-left on the Voice Mixer blends in a fuzzed-out square-wave take of your input in its original octave. In a nutshell, the PLL takes your input signal and compares its phase and frequency against an oscillator, generates an output proportional to their difference then feeds it back to the oscillator. This then causes the oscillator to lock onto the input signal and generate a synthesized frequency. Pretty cool, right? This synthesized frequency is referred to as the Master Oscillator on the Data Corrupter.

Master Oscillator
The Master Oscillator takes it’s input from one of three sources: Unison, one octave down and two octaves down. Some frequencies are too high for the Master Oscillator to divide, therefore, shifting them down one or two octaves brings them back into the proper range (it also happens to sound super cool). These sources are referred to as “Root” and can be selected via a three-position switch. The Root is then fed into the PLL and multiplied to create one of eight different intervals over three octaves that are selected by the rotary switch to create your harmony! This harmony can then be manipulated via the Frequency Modulator section.

Frequency Modulator
The Frequency Modulator has two modes, Glide and Vibrato. In Glide mode, the pitch will glide from note to note and the speed of the glide can be adjusted by the Rate control. At faster settings, this takes on a very cool phase shifting effect. In Vibrato mode, the pitch varies up and down to create a laser-like effect. The Frequency Modulator only affects the Master Oscillator, unless the Subharmonic Root switch is in the Oscillator position.

Subharmonic
The Subharmonic section of the Data Corrupter creates a sub octave of the Root and then divides it up into eight intervals over three octaves which are selected by the rotary switch to create your subharmonic harmony. The Root comes from one of two sources, Unison or the Master Oscillator. When Unison is selected, the Subharmonic will be a division of the square wave fuzz tone and the Frequency Modulator will have no effect. When Oscillator is selected, the Subharmonic will be a division of the Master Oscillator and the Frequency Modulator will be applied to the Subharmonic harmony.

Voice Mixer and Level
The Master Oscillator, Subharmonic and Square wave fuzz tone all have volume controls under the voice mixer section. Use these to blend the three voices together to taste. The Level is a master volume and determines the overall output level of the effect.

Tracking
This pedal should be placed close to front of your signal chain and before any delay, reverb or modulation effect. While it will work with most bridge pickups, the neck pickup will provide the best tracking results. Precise picking and single notes will track quickly and cleanly. Chords and sloppy playing will result in chaos. There is no control over the amount of gain because it really needs to be fine-tuned to properly track. Weak signals (like backing off on the guitar volume) will lead to poor tracking and gating.

Design Notes
This Device takes its inspiration from the Electrax Synthax and the “Basic Frequency Synthesizer” by Ray Marston. Right out of the gate Stu G wanted a dirt box that could essentially cover any-and-all ground he needed for his studio work and extensive touring gigs. We use a specifically chosen op-amplifier that offers super low noise, improved slew rate for a smoother structure, and a character that just feels better than the original Expandora. Then there are three toggles that enhance the tweak-ability even further. The cut/flat toggle gives you the option to cut the low end frequencies to better sit in the mix. When in the "flat" position, the bass response is much beefier than the original Expandora for those heavy guitar riffs or bass grit. The G1 and G2 toggles let you select various forms of distortion via select resistance values that switch in and out in the clipping section of the circuit. This method is very different than your normal diode clipping selectors that you commonly see on drive pedals. This gives you multiple configurations and tonal options, helping the Kilt V2 cover light transparent drive all the way to a wall of fat fuzz/distortion and everything found in-between.

– When both toggles are down, you are in the lightest gain setting. This is a pedal for players who typically work their volume and tone knobs.

Exterior dimensions of 4.8" x 2.6" x 1.56" (122 x 66 x 39mm)

FEATURES

Top Mount Jacks

Two Different Graphic Designs

True Bypass

DC Jack

9V Battery

The Rock Your Repaired Amp Tri-Pi is my favorite version of the early Tri-Muff.
